Some of the world’s best walking tracks can be found in its 10 national parks. We start in Wellington, taking the Cook Strait ferry crossing to Picton. Then it’s on to whale watching in Kaikoura, enjoying the hot springs of Hanmer, a visit to the garden city Christchurch and a ride at the Taieri Gorge Railway.
We’ll visit the albatross colony at Tairoa Head in Dunedin, see the end of the country at Stewart Island, get remote in Milford Sound and have a thrill in the adventure capital Queenstown.
Returning to Christchurch through Mackenzie Country and Haast Pass, we’ll also look to the West Coast with heli flights over the glaciers, the breeding colonies of white herons to the limestone caves of Karamea. Walking five of the South Islands most scenic walks including the Abel Tasman, Nelson Lakes National Park, Rees-Dart, Humpridge Track and Mueller Hut at Mount Cook.
